"THE COUNTRY HABIT HAS ME BY THE HEART." VITA SACKVILLE WEST. THE RURAL NORTH EAST IS WHO I OWE MY CREATIVITY TOO, THE COMMUNITY AROUND ME, THE ROLLING HILLS, THE FREEDOM OF THOUGHT AND NAÏVE WAYS. AS A YOUNG DESIGNER, I CAN'T WAIT FOR A FUTURE OF TRAVEL, LEARNING AND BEING INSPIRED BY CULTURES, COMMUNITY PLACES AND MOTIONS, BUT FOREVER MY ROOTS AND MY BEGINNINGS WILL CARRY ME THROUGHOUT MY CREATIVE CAREER.

MY COLLECTION EXPLORES THE RELATIONSHIP THE BRITISH FARMING COMMUNITY HAVE TO THEIR CLOTHING; THE VALUE THEY PLACE UPON PRACTICAL ATTIRE AND ATTACHMENTS THEY GAIN. GROWING UP WITHIN THE REMOTE NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS, MY CLOTHING FOCUSED ON PRACTICALITY, DURABILITY, AND THE ABILITY TO MEND, ALTER, AND LONGEVITY OFTEN BECOMING SENTIMENTAL TOWARDS PARTICULAR PIECES. THROUGH THIS CYCLE OF DECONSTRUCTION AND MENDING CAME AN ACCIDENTAL SHABBY AESTHETIC, THAT TO ME HAS FORMED BY DESIGN SIGNATURE AND ONE THAT THIS COLLECTION HAS EXPLORED.

THROUGH THE ACQUISITION OF FAMILY REMNANT CLOTHING, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DECONSTRUCT, MEND AND REFORM INTO NEW PIECES. WORKING INDIVIDUALLY WITH EACH GARMENT I HAVE APPLIED SURGICAL TECHNIQUES TO UNWIND EACH PIECE, AND MERGE INTO SOMETHING NEW. FROM REWORKING AN OLD GARMENT INTO SOMETHING NEW, TO USING OLD OBJECTS YOU'D FIND LAYING ABOUT TO HELP CREATE A NEW PRINT. THROUGH THESE PROCESSES I WANTED TO CREATE AN AWARENESS OF THIS TECHNIQUE TO SOMEHOW ESTABLISH A SILHOUETTE THAT CELEBRATED THESE INCISIONS AND SCARS THAT HAVE YEARS OF HISTORY, LOVE AND WEAR THROUGHOUT.

I WANT TO MAKE PEOPLE FALL IN LOVE AGAIN, AND BUILD THE RELATIONSHIPS BACK BETWEEN GARMENT AND OWNER – WHICH IS WHY THE FARMERS OF THE NORTH EAST HAVE HUGELY INSPIRED ME. FAST FASHION IS TAKING OVER, YET IT CAN NEVER BEAT THAT OVERLY WORN JUMPER THAT YOU JUST CAN'T BARE TO PART WITH! AS A DESIGNER, I HOPE REBUILD THESE LOST RELATIONSHIPS AND MAKE GARMENTS THAT PEOPLE ARE PROUD TO OWN, WHICH IN CORRELATION CAN SLOWLY IRRADIATE THIS FAST FASHION TREND, WHICH WILL HAVE POSITIVE EFFECTS ON OUR ENVIRONMENT, FROM CO2 EMISSIONS TO THE CLOTHES THAT GO TO LAND FILL, AND MAKE PEOPLE OWN, GROW AND LOVE IN THEIR GARMENTS.

THE OUTCOME OF THIS COLLECTION HAS BECOME A LABOUR OF LOVE AND ENABLED ME TO QUESTION MY OWN ROLE WITHIN THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND IMPLEMENT SUSTAINABLE DESIGN METHODS WHICH IS WHERE MY PASSION AND MOTIVATIONS ARE AS A YOUNG DESIGNER.
